Which Better : Biodiesel Compared to Petroleum Diesel

Monday, February 14th 2011. | Environment, Science, Technology

Biodiesel is a renewable fuel form, non-toxic and biodegradable fuel produced from an oil pressure extraction of oil from the seeds. Biodiesel can be used in any diesel engine. Unlike traditional petroleum fuels, does not damage the soil during production, processing or use. In the late nineteenth century, Rudolph Diesel designed his engine to run on biodiesel, and the first car designed by Henry Ford was also designed to run on vegetable-based fuels. Today there is renewed interest in biodiesel because of its low environmental impact, low production and the sustainable nature.

The Environment : Biodiesel compared to petroleum

Plant-based fuel produced from oil mills burns much cleaner than traditional petroleum diesel that is emitted from 40% of greenhouse gases by 60% less. Biodiesel can be combined with fuel oil, which lowers the creation of pollutants in direct proportion to how much biodiesel is added, or it can be used in its pure form. Many people believe that this can cause damage to equipment, but in fact the opposite proved true. The addition of biodiesel to petroleum-based fuels increases the lubricating qualities of the fuel, light wear on the components and prolong engine life.

Some figures published by US Department of Energy and the US Department of Agriculture show that compared to diesel fuel, biodiesel is typically produced:

- 78% less carbon dioxide
- 32% less particulate pollution
- 96% less hazardous waste solids

Production: Biodiesel compared to petroleum

Fossil fuels are extracted from the ground with invasive techniques and environmentally harmful. No less dangerous is the processing and use of fuel oil. Biodiesel, on the other hand, can be achieved with presses oil seeds of many varieties of seeds including sunflower, rapeseed, linseed, soybean, and more. A heated press rape seed oil is able to extract about 90% – 95% of oil from the seeds. different seeds produce different amounts of oil, and by running them through the press screw oil repeatedly optimum extraction of oil is reached. Increasing fuel and extracting with a mill is a lot cleaner and sustainable processes of extraction and refining crude oil into usable fuel oil.

Biodiesel is gaining in popularity because when compared with the oil is cleaner, more sustainable, more efficient and healthier for the environment and the life it supports.
